Mission Statement of Evergreen Baptist Church
(adopted Jan. 17, 2001)
The mission of Evergreen Baptist Church is to enhance
the relationship between God and people, the proclamation
of the Gospel locally and around the world, and
the fellowship and welfare of our members and community.
WHO WE ARE …
Evergreen Baptist is an inter-generational congregation, family-focused, and community minded group of individuals.. We believe kids are important, youth are our future, adults need to continue to grow, and worship should be exciting. We are centered on Christ, grounded in the Bible, and called to love God and love others.
HOW WE GOT HERE …
In 1907, 89 bold believers began to clear the ground in Evergreen, Virginia to establish a new church. The first service was April 1908. A month later, Sunday school began. In 1908, the church family and the first (and still existing) building was dedicated to the purpose God had lain out before them … to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to witness of His saving power and to minister to the needs of the people.
An educational building was built 20 years later. And though the years, many programs like VBS, local missions, and more were held. Many of these were in partnership with our sister church, Evergreen United Methodist. In the 1990s, the newest addition of a 400+ seat worship center was built that is helping reach our community and our world. We do this through missions, having an online presence, and through our cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention.
The church has had 29 pastors that have led with their unique strengths and personalities. Our current pastor brings a passion for the Word, a creative and connecting preaching style, and an excitement to try new ways to reach the our world. Al the pastors hold to the principle to hold Christ, Jesus Christ the Savior, up before the world.
More buildings, more ministries, more missions, more people connecting to the Lord and to each other. The last 110 plus years have shown a passion to give God glory, to gather together for worship, to grow in God’s grace and love, and to go out to share the good news and His love.
