1 Peter 2:13-4:11
UNSHAKABLE – Radical Living in a Shaky World – Week 3
Open – Early 1900s, a missionary couple returned by ocean steamer, after 30 years serving in Africa. Upon return, an ambassador disembarked before them. The politician was greeted by banners, crowds, applause. The missionaries then disembarked to silence and with no one there to greet them. The husband looked at his wife and said it wasn’t fair. They deserved a better homecoming. The wife smiled and wisely reminded him, “Dear, we aren’t hime yet!”
In Hebrews 11:9-10, we are told a great insight about Abraham …
By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
We are to live forward thinking.
We are to live heaven focused.
HOWEVER … We also have to live in the present … a shifting sand, stormy land we call life.

Theme … 1 Peter is a letter to those hurting people on the brink of hopelessness. In everything that rocks our world, do NOT forget who you are – you a child of the most high God!
These verses we are looking at today are an exhortation to hopefully living in our unique situation …
- even when ripped off, treated unfairly, persecuted, taken advantage of … WE PRESS ON.
RADICAL LIVING IN A SHAKY WORLD
To be unshakable in relationships.
To be unshakable in our suffering.
To be unshakable in spiritual battles.
- Submission … 2:13-3:7
– Government, Employment, Husbands, all authority - Humility … 2:13-3:7
- Righteous Suffering … 4:1-6
- Ready Defense … 5:7-11
- MOST IMPORTANTLY —— Love One Another … 4:8
Some Key points to consider
— SUBMISSION: hypotasso …place oneself under, humbly subject yourself, consciously and willingly
—SET APART: hagiazo … sanctify, set apart … 3:8
This is a unique usage of the verb in that we set apart Christ
We honor Him above all else, we are readily putting Him first
We recognize our living – here, now – is for Him
We are not called to silence.
We are not called to earthly warfare.
We are called to radical living
– based on UNSHAKABLE life of Jesus Christ.
